Fully Immersive Program
Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)

Next course: 31 October – 3 November 2026 | Regional NSW | All-inclusive from Sydney Airport

A checkpoint at night is not a slide. A crowd turning hostile is not a discussion point. The Fully Immersive HEAT program is built on a simple truth: people default to their training under stress β€” and training that never created stress was never tested.

For four days, your people live inside a purpose-built environment modelled on the places they deploy to. Theory is taught, then immediately put under pressure through live scenarios run by operator instructors and professional role-players.

The Training Environment

A bespoke developing-world training site in regional NSW β€” accommodation, checkpoints, markets, compounds. Participants don't visit the training area; they live in it. Conditions, routines, and pressures are managed end-to-end by the Empire Institute team.

All-Inclusive from Sydney Airport

The course starts the moment you board the bus β€” not when you arrive.

  • Pickup: Sydney Airport, 09:00, Saturday 31 October 2026
  • In-transit briefings: pre-deployment briefs delivered on the move during the ~3-hour drive β€” exactly as they would be on a real deployment
  • Accommodation and meals: included, on site, for the full four days
  • Training equipment: provided
  • Return: drop-off at Sydney Airport on the night of Tuesday 3 November 2026

What to Bring

Pack as you would for a field deployment. A full kit list is issued on booking β€” as a minimum:

  • Outdoor clothing suited to field conditions, day and night
  • Backpack β€” your kit travels with you
  • Sleeping bag and personal comfort items
  • Toiletries and hygiene products

If it matters to your comfort in the field, it matters here. Packing discipline is part of the training.

Core Training Areas

Delivered in context, not in a classroom:

  • Situational Awareness
  • Security Context (Image & Acceptance)
  • Trip Planning
  • Communications Protocols & Equipment
  • Field Preparedness & Evacuation
  • Critical Incident Stress
  • Navigation
  • Physical Security
  • Information Security
  • Incident Reporting

Live Scenarios

Full role-player supported, safety-managed, assessed:

  • Vehicle Checkpoints & Roadblocks
  • Active Armed Assailant
  • Crowds and Mobs
  • Weapons Awareness (Distance & Movement Under Fire)
  • Hostage and Kidnap Survival
  • Sexual Assault Awareness & Response
  • Basics of Negotiation
  • Explosive Remnants of War (ERW)

Every scenario is followed by a structured debrief. Performance is assessed against the standard β€” and the standard does not move.

Safety Is the Framework, Not the Afterthought

Realism never outranks welfare. Every scenario runs under documented safety controls, qualified supervision, and clear participant boundaries β€” including for sensitive scenarios, which are delivered by trained facilitators with opt-out protocols.

Investment

  • Course fee: $4,500 + GST per participant
  • Includes: transport from/to Sydney Airport, accommodation, meals, training equipment, all instruction and role-player support
  • Deposit: $1,000 to secure your place
  • Balance: paid in full by 30 September 2026

Places are limited by the role-player and instructor ratio β€” the standard doesn't scale by squeezing the course.

Who It's For

Personnel deploying to high-threat environments β€” humanitarian, media, energy, government, and corporate β€” and the organisations that owe them more than a slideshow before they go.
